Women's Rugby Falls in Season Opener
August 30, 2025 | Women's Rugby
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Army West Point Women's Rugby team put together a ferocious comeback effort but came up just short, falling to Lindenwood 34-22 in its season opener on Saturday afternoon.
Army (0-1) got out of the gates slow and quickly found itself behind 17-0 before it began finding its rhythm. With just under 22 minutes to play in the first half, Gabby Woenker scored the first try of the season for the Black Knights from 10 yards out to make it 17-5.
Six minutes later, TyraSoleil Ringdahl recorded a remarkable 28-yard try, as Alissa Eisenhart added the conversion to cut the Lindenwood lead to 22-12 with a little over 13 minutes to play in the first half. The Army comeback continued on as Chloe De Leon ended the first half with a bruising score to make it 22-17 and put the Black Knights right back into the thick of it.
Lindenwood opened the scoring in the second half to make it 27-17 but Army wasn't going to back down without a fight. Ringdahl added her second try of the game with just over 21 minutes to play to make the score 27-22.
Unfortunately, the Black Knights couldn't get close than that as Lindenwood held on to win its first NIRA game in program history.
Coaches Corner – head coach Jenn Salomon-Clayton
"Lindenwood is a great team, and we're excited to welcome them to NIRA. While the result wasn't what we wanted, I'm proud of how we took the opportunity. We set a great foundation we're building on and that gives us tremendous confidence as we continue building this season."
