September 30, 2025 | Men's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team took a one-match pause from Patriot League play on Tuesday night but fell 2-0 to No. 13 Princeton at Malek Stadium.
Army (3-3-4) was unable to find the back of the net despite leading Princeton (7-1-0) in shots on goal and corner kicks. The Tigers opened scoring in the 8th minute as Kevin Kelley took advantage of a misplay by Army goalkeeper Collin Gilbert and scored his second goal of the season.
Army seemed to find its rhythm for the remainder of the half and settled down on both ends of the field. Going into the locker room at the break the Tigers led the Black Knights in shots (8-5) and shots on goal (3-2), while Army had the edge in corner kicks (3-1).
The second half saw Army apply more consistent offensive pressure, as it registered five shots and three on target in the final 45 minutes. Ronald Zhai and Brantley Wigginton led the Black Knights with two shots on target each.
Princeton doubled its lead and put the game out of reach in the 84th minute as Jackson Martin scored his third goal of the season, with Bardia Hormozi recording the assist.
The Tigers finished the night leading in shots (11-10) and saves (5-2). Army led in shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (4-2). Gilbert made two saves while moving to 0-1-1 on the season. Andrew Samuels registered the win and moved to (7-1-0) while making five saves.
Coaches Corner – Head coach Brian Plotkin
"Really good team punish mistakes. We had two big ones. I think outside of that, really proud of the effort of the guys. I though they executed what we had hoped in terms of the performance overall. Obviously bummed to not get the result but a good number of positives for us to take into Saturday against Bucknell.
