Gymnastics Finishes Day One at the West Point Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Gymnastics opened their home competitive 2026 season hosting the 34th annual West Point Open. The event featured five competitors that the Black Knights will face later season in ECAC conference match ups as well as Penn State who the Black Knights saw last week. Army finished second out of the six teams in the team competition with a 306.650 overall team score.
The Black Knights started out the night on the Floor Exercise with a 52.600 team score. Junior Max Rubin led all Black Knights on the event with a 13.600 and finished third overall. In the second event of the night, the Black Knights finished with a team score of 54.000. Senior Maddox Pabellon scored a 14.200 to secure a top place finish on the apparatus.
Sophomore Ben Aguilar and senior John Wear both made their first appearances of the 2026 season both competing the Pommel Horse. Senior Carter Beck led all Black Knights on the Still Rings with a 12.450. On the fourth event, junior Nick Lester stuck a beautiful landing on the vault for a 14.300 for the first-place finish, while the team scored a 53.800.
On the Parallel Bars, the Black Knights finished with a team score of 51.450 and were led by junior Noah Duran who secured a 13.250 for a new career high on the apparatus and came in third overall. In the final event of the night, Horizontal Bar, Sophomore Cash Johnston finished fifth overall with a 13.050.
The Black Knight had eight gymnasts qualify for the Individual Final tomorrow. To qualify a gymnast must finish in the top eight overall in the respective event.
On the Floor Exercise, freshman Thomas Morrow (13.350, Fifth) and junior Max Rubin (13.600, Third) qualified, while three gymnasts qualified on the Pommel Horse: Junior Noah Duran (13.450, Tied Fifth), Senior Maddox Pabellon (14.200, First), Sophomore Jake Prabhakaran (13.500, Fourth). On the Still Ring event, senior Carter Beck (12.450, Tied Seventh) qualified while on the Vault junior Nick Lester (14.300, First) qualified after finishing with the top score on the apparatus.
Duran (13.250, Third) earned his second individual qualification of the event on the Parallel Bars and Sophomore Cash Johnston (13.050, Fifth) qualified on the Horizontal Bar.
