Smith is one of 25 players on the list, which includes representatives from 21 teams and 16 conferences. She is one of two Patriot League selections, along with Navy's Zanai Barnett-Gay.
A forward from Lubbock, Texas, Smith enters her senior season after leading the Black Knights in points (466), rebounds (348) and assists (107) in 2025-26. She averaged 13.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and recorded 14 double-doubles. She was one of only three players in the country with multiple 20-point, 20-rebound games last season, including a career-high 27 points and 22 rebounds against Howard on Dec. 29 and 21 points and 21 rebounds against Lafayette in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals.
Smith helped lead Army to a 26-8 record, the second-most wins in program history, and to the WNIT Great 8. The Black Knights became the first Patriot League team ever to reach that round.
She earned Second Team All-Patriot League and All-Defensive Team honors last season and was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association All-Met Second Team. She opened 2026-27 with a spot on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, joining teammate Camryn Tade as one of two Black Knights on the five-player squad.
In Army's season-opening exhibition at No. 2 UConn on Sunday, Smith had seven points, six rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Smith enters the season with 963 career points, needing 37 more to become the 21st player in program history to reach 1,000.
The Becky Hammon Award, first given in 2020, honors the top player at the mid-major level of NCAA Division I women's basketball. Her Hoop Stats will narrow the field to a 15-player midseason watch list in January, 10 semifinalists in February and five finalists in early March. The winner will be announced around the Final Four. South Dakota State's Brooklyn Meyer won the 2026 award.
Army opens the regular season on Monday, Nov. 2, against St. Thomas Aquinas at 6 p.m. at Christl Arena.
