October 03, 2026 | Rifle
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point rifle team opened its home schedule Saturday, taking on perennial national power West Virginia at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center. The Black Knights posted a team score of 4,665, including a 2,310 smallbore and 2,355 air rifle, while gaining valuable early-season experience against one of the nation's premier programs.
Army was led by Addison Antwiler, who recorded the team's top aggregate score of 1,171 behind a 581 in smallbore and 590 in air rifle. Antwiler's performance earned her a 10th-place overall finish and marked the top aggregate score among the Black Knights on the day.
The Black Knights received several strong performances throughout the lineup. Ashton Arlington compiled an aggregate score of 1,169 after posting a 577 in smallbore and 592 in air rifle, while Brenna Green followed closely with an 1,167 aggregate behind a 580 smallbore and 587 air rifle performance.
Army's strongest event of the day came in air rifle, where Barbara Forgues turned in one of the top performances of the match. The sophomore fired a 592-47x, good for seventh place overall in air rifle, and helped lead the Black Knights to a team score of 2,355 in the discipline. Arlington matched Forgues with a 592, while Antwiler added a 590 and Green contributed a 587.
Saturday also marked a special milestone for the program as plebes August Hupf and Sarah Mohr made their NCAA debuts for the Black Knights. Hupf contributed to Army's scoring lineup with a 1,158 aggregate score, shooting 572 in smallbore and 586 in air rifle, while both newcomers gained valuable collegiate experience in their first competition.
Despite the individual highlights, there are opportunities for growth as the season progresses.
"Today gave us a lot of things to work on as we begin preparation for our matches at TCU next weekend," said head coach Leighton Dempster-Matey. "There were a few good things happening on the line but overall, we need to maintain the standards we set in practice on match day. The nerves got the better of us, and we will learn from this so we can better prepare for our upcoming matches."
