Men’s Basketball Sees Loss Inside Christl Arena at the Hands of Boston University

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point men's basketball (10-16, 4-9) suffered a third-straight loss on Wednesday, falling to the Boston University Terriers (11-15, 6-7), 68-85.
The loss gives the Terriers the season sweep over the Black Knights, after Army also fell to Boston U inside Case Gym on Jan. 10, 91-100. The regular season sweep also marks the first time since the 2019-20 season that the Black Knights have been swept by the Terriers in Patriot League play.
Jacen Holloway finished the game leading the Black Knights in scoring, finishing with a team-high 19 points. Holloway finished shooting 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range, while adding 4-of-5 from the free throw line and two rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench.
Jaxson Bell was the only other Army player to finish in double figures, adding 13 points, shooting 50 percent from three-point range, while going a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and adding two rebounds, one block and two steals in 25 minutes.
How It Happened
The Black Knights scored first, with Jaxson Bell hitting a three-pointer from a no-look pass from Jorn Everson. The senior forward would hit another three-pointer from a dish from Ryan Curry. Then Ryan Curry hit a jumper in the lane to make it an 8-9 game with 16:12 left on the clock.
From there, the Terriers went on an 8-0 run over two minutes to take a 17-8 lead over Army with 13:30 left in the first half. Army responded back over the next four minutes, outscoring Boston U 14-6 to make it a one-point game at 22-23 with 9:25 left in the first frame.
Jacen Holloway added a three-pointer, and Joshua Eli added a jumper from a pass from Jackson Furman. Jacen Holloway added another two points from the free throw line, then Ryan Curry hit his first three-pointer of the day. To cap off the stretch, Jaxson Bell drew a steal that allowed Ryan Curry to connect with Jorn Everson on a fast break, then Ryan Curry added two free throws.
Over the next four minutes, the Terriers took back control, going on a 12-2 run to take a 35-24 lead over Army with 3:38 left in the first half. Dylan Benner had the lone bucket for the Black Knights, scoring on an inbounds play, giving Ryan Curry his fourth assist of the day.
The two teams stayed even in the final four minutes of the first half, each team scoring five points. Jacen Holloway grabbed an offensive rebound and converted it into a layup, Joshua Eli added a free throw, and Jaxson Bell added another two at the charity stripe to make it 29-40 game heading into the locker room.
Coming back out of the locker room, the Black Knight added five points while the Terriers scored eight to make it a 34-48 game with 15:54 left to day.
Jaxson Bell had all five of Army's points in the stretch, scoring from deep using a pass from Tate Laczkowski. Jaxson Bell also added another two points from the free throw line to surpass double figures.
The Black Knights kept fighting through the next four minutes, scoring 12 points, but Boston U still kept a 46-61 lead with 12:12 on the clock. Jacen Holloway had nine points for Army in the stretch, hitting two three-pointers and converting a three-point play. Jackson Furman also added a bucket from deep.
Army began to chip into the Terriers lead, going on a 7-2 run in under two minutes to make it only a 53-63 deficit with 9:30 left to play. Jacen Holloway drove the ball in to add the first two, with Jackson Furman doing the same thing the next possession. Joshua Eli added a point at the stripe, and then Ryan Curry scored a point, driving in the paint.
The Terriers responded back in the next five minutes, having 15 points to Army's nine points. In the first two minutes in that stretch, a driving jumper from Kevin McCarthy and a three-pointer from Jackson Furman made it a single-digit deficit at 58-67 with 7:28 left to play, but in the next three minutes, Army was outscored 11-4.
In those two minutes, Jacen Holloway added another point from the free throw line to reach 18 points, then Jaxson Bell hit another three-pointer. It was a 62-73 game with 5:16 left to play.
The Terriers shut the door on the Black Knights in the final four minutes, opening the stretch on a 12-0 run to take an 85-62 lead over the Black Knights.
Army cut into Boston U's lead in the final 90 seconds, with Dylan Benner and Jackson Mayo each hitting three-pointers, but ultimately, the Terriers took an 85-68 win over the Black Knights.

- Joshua Eli contributed four points on 1-of-1 shooting and 2-of-4 from the free throw line while pulling down six rebounds in 21 minutes.
- The Black Knights shot 37.9 percent from the field, compared to Boston U's highly efficient 65.9 percent. Army made 32.4 percent of its three-pointers (12-of-37), while Boston shot 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from beyond the arc.
- Army was outrebounded 30 to 27. The Terriers also recorded 18 assists, compared to Army's 13 assists.
- Army committed 7 turnovers, fewer than Boston U's 9 turnovers. The Black Knights also had a significant bench scoring advantage, outscoring Boston's bench 39 to 16.
- Boston U dominated inside with 36 points in the paint, compared to Army's 18 points in the paint.

The Black Knights hit the road for their first of two games in the DMV area in the next week. First, Army heads to the Nation's Capitol to take on the American University Eagles in Bender Arena.
In the first matchup inside Christl Arena this season, the Eagles took a 78-67 win over the Black Knights. When the two teams played in Bender Arena last season, it was a close game, but Army ultimately fell to the Eagles, 68-71.
