How It Happened
- The Black Knights started the game hot with junior Geneva Milch Cesoni burying the game's first goal within the first minute of play, finishing a feed from senior Lily Valentini after senior Sarah Chernik won the opening draw.
- The Black Knights' ride and defensive pressure created early problems for Navy, and Army capitalized again when Duffy powered home back-to-back unassisted goals at 7:20 and 4:37 to build a 3–1 lead.
- Through the first quarter, Army dictated pace: winning ground balls, generating stops, and holding Navy to one goal on eight shots.
- The second quarter, however, proved the turning point. Navy found a rhythm in transition and on the ride, scoring seven straight goals. Despite strong defensive stands and multiple saves from senior Lindsey Serafine, the Mids turned extended possessions into an 8–3 halftime deficit.
- Army continued to battle after the break. Navy stretched the margin to 11–3 before the Black Knights answered with a needed spark: Cesoni finished a man-up goal at 4:15, set up by senior Chloe Garrett, to halt the run. Sophomore Paige Moretti added a late third-quarter goal, assisted by Cesoni, to pull Army within 12–5 entering the fourth.
- The Black Knights kept pushing. Valentini scored at 10:50 off another Garrett assist, and Moretti struck again on a man-up opportunity at 5:58 to make it 13–7. Freshman Thais Jackson added a late finish from Duffy as Army continued to generate chances down the stretch.
- Army finished with 13 draw controls, 19 ground balls, and eight different players recording either a point or a caused turnover. Duffy led the effort with 2 goals, 1 assist, 7 caused turnovers, and 3 draw controls, while Cesoni added 2 goals and an assist. Moretti scored twice, and Valentini and Jackson each added one. Serafine made six saves before Anderson Strange added two more in relief.
