Women’s Rugby Impresses at Quinnipiac Sevens

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Army West Point women's rugby team had a strong showing at the Quinnipiac Sevens tournament on Sunday afternoon, as the Black Team finished in first place, while the Gold Team finished fourth.
Black Team Recap
Army kicked off its day of competition with a 39-14 win over Navy B. The Black Knights got scoring from all over the field, as Alyssa Davis (2), Emily Vizcarra (2), Cecillia Ollis (1), Alissa Eisenhart (1) and Ellie Kearney (1) all recorded tries in the win. Eisenhart added a pair of conversions.
In its next matchup against Quinnipiac, Army came away with a 22-7 victory. Ollis, Vizcarra, Yesenia Morales and Natalia Johnson added tries in the win, with Eisenhart recording a conversion.
Army closed out its pool play with a gutsy 17-12 win over Sacred Heart B. Morales had an impressive match, scoring a pair of tries. Zoe Weimer also had her first score of the day. Eisenhart was 1-3 on conversion attempts.
By going 3-0 in pool play, the Black Team secured a spot in the championship, where it defeated Navy A in a thrilling overtime match. Morales and Woenker each had a try in regulation, with Morales recording an incredible score in the final 10 seconds of overtime to win the tournament.
Morales finished the afternoon with team-high five tries including four in the final two matches.
Gold Team
The Gold Team dropped its opening match of the day to Navy A, 55-0. They rebounded in strong fashion in their second game, defeated New Haven 31-14.
Recording tries in the win were Gwen Gilchrest (2), Tatiana Stockbower (1), Maloi Lannan (1), Addison Bowman (1). Gilchrest also added a pair of conversions, while Sara Fenimore tacked on another.
In its next matchup, Army fell 29-5 to Sacred Heart's top team. Bella Pareti had the only try for Army.
In the third-place match, the Black Knights fell to Quinnipiac 33-7. Fenimore had Army's lone try, with Gilchrest adding the conversion.
