WEST POINT, N.Y. – A new season awaits Army West Point men's rugby.
After a 9-3 regular season, the Black Knights open their 2026 CRAA D1A playoff campaign against Arkansas State on Friday night. The match will take place at Anderson Rugby Complex, serving as the Round of 16 fixture. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m, with the match being streamed on YouTube.
"We're excited for Friday night. The focus has been on us, how we train, how we prepare, and how we execute. I've been happy with the intent and improvement from the group. We're excited for the opportunity to put out a new best. If we get that right, we believe we'll give ourselves a good chance to extend the season another week. I'm proud of this group and how far we've come," said head coach Matt Sherman.
Army earned the No. 4-seed in the East Region, with Arkansas State drawing the No. 5-seed. The match serves as a meeting between familiar foes, with assistant coaches Jake Mizell and Danny Breda alums of the Red Wolves' program.
A season ago, the Black Knights won their Round of 16 match vs. Mount St. Mary's (MD) before dropping a close 18-17 decision to perennial power Life University in the quarterfinals.
The 2025-26 regular season was highlighted by a five-match winning streak in the fall campaign, a Cannon Cup win over Guelph with matches to bookend the regular season slate, and an academy win at Air Force on October 31.
The first 100 cadets to arrive for Friday night's match will receive Chick-Fil-A sandwiches. Cadets looking to attend the fixture can utilize shuttle busses leaving from the supe's box which will return them to central area after the match.
Next Up
The winner of Friday night's match will take on the winner of the match between top-seeded Navy and Mary Washington, with that quarterfinal being hosted by the higher seed.
