May 08, 2026 | Softball
BOSTON – Army West Point softball took on its second game of the 2026 Patriot League tournament on Friday morning against tournament host Boston University. The Black Knights (33-24) fought valiantly but the Terriers (45-13) took the 3-0 win in the Friday morning matchup to advance to the title game.
Breanna Coonfare and Mia Bonsignore led the Black Knights with two hits each in the contest. Tayten Moore and Ashton White followed with a hit each.
Army will face the winner of the game four matchup between Lafayette and Colgate for the right to compete in the title game on Saturday morning.
Breanna Izzo and Amanda Eaglin stepped into the circle Friday morning for the Black Knights as Izzo logged 2.1 innings in the circle with four hits and three earned runs to her score sheet. Eaglin completed 4.2 innings in the circle for Army, allowing four hits and dealing two strikeouts against the Terriers.
How It Happened
The Terriers took an early lead, scoring in the top of the first inning to put the pressure on Army to respond quickly.
A three up, three down inning for the Black Knights brought Boston back to the plate where the home team put two runners on base, but Army's defense held out to bring Army back up to bat with a one-run edge to eliminate.
Three Black Knights took the trip to the plate, but the Terriers held Army off the board in the second frame.
Boston extended their lead in the top of the third inning, adding two runs to their total before Army's defense could cut off their run at the plate.
Mia Bonsignore kicked things off in the bottom of the third with a single through the left side, advancing to third on a Tayten Moore single to the shortstop and an error from Boston's fielding team, but the Black Knights fell short of scoring and Boston carried its three-run lead into the fourth frame.
The two teams entered a stalemate in the twilight innings of the contest as both teams put runners on base but failed to score as the game continued on.
After back-to-back three up, three down innings for the two teams to end the sixth inning and begin the seventh, Army returned to the plate for the bottom of the seventh on a mission to cut into Boston's lead.
Breanna Coonfare drilled a single through right center to give Army a runner on base after a Emma Muchison grounded out to third base.
A huge double from Bonsignore to right center sent Coonfare around the bases and across home plate to mark Army's first run of the game.
Boston's defense locked in after Army's run scored and delivered back-to-back putouts to secure the game three win for the host team.
