McWhinney's Brace Powers Women's Soccer to 3-0 Win Over American in Patriot League Opener

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point women's soccer opened Patriot League play in style, shutting out American, 3-0, Saturday at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field. The win moved the Black Knights to 4-6-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play, while American fell to 0-7-2, 0-1-0.
Grace Pohlidal got Army on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal in the 19th minute for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead that held into halftime. Army controlled the run of play throughout the opening 45 minutes, out-shooting American 13-3 in the first period alone.
Kamryn McWhinney took over in the second half, recording her second brace of the season to put the game away. The freshman struck in the 65th minute and added her second in the 71st minute — a goal that was initially waved off for offside before being confirmed via video review — pushing her season total to five goals, the Black Knights leading in goal scorer.
Karalyn Dail was sharp in net, making two saves to post the shutout, her second clean sheet of the season. Army finished with a 22-8 shot advantage and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, controlling the match from start to finish against a Patriot League opponent for the first time this season.
