Boston University Gets Past Women’s Soccer

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team fell to a 2-0 setback to Patriot League-leading Boston University on Saturday afternoon at Clinton Field. The Black Knights slip to 4-11-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the league, while the Terriers improve to 9-5-3 and 7-0-1.
Army goalkeeper Jordan Cassalia finished with six saves in the match after replacing Jessica McAllister in net early in the first half.
Boston University received a goal and an assist from Julianna Chen, while McKenna Doyle netted the game winner in the opening half. Rachel Bloznalis also provided an assist for the visitors and goalkeeper Alyssa Parisi made four saves for the shutout.
Cassalia came up with her first save of the afternoon on a shot from Erica Kosienski in the 11th minute. Cassalia made a diving play to her right side to make the stop.
Army earned three corner kicks in succession during a span of 1:06 in the 14th and 15th minutes, with Sydney Witham connecting on a header that went wide on the Black Knights' second of the three corners, which came off the foot of Hanna Rozzi.
Katie Holder directed a shot over her shoulder with her back facing the net in the 26th minute before Jade Jamison jumped for the rebound and had her header from close range saved by Parisi at the left post.
Boston University broke through for the game's first score in the 36th minute as Chen sent a pass from midfield ahead to Doyle, who dribbled into Army's 18-yard box before scoring with a low shot on the right side of the goal to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
Boston University continued to pressure Army's back line early in the second half as Bloznalis won a free kick that she sent high of the net in the 52nd minute and Clare Pleuler fired a set piece on target that Cassalia saved in the 56th minute.
The Terriers struck for their second tally of the match in the 58th minute when Bloznalis sent in a corner kick from the right side that Chen headed home to double the visitors' advantage.
Army received a number of chances during the latter stages of the second half, including a dangerous shot off the foot of Sam Gottlieb that came in the 73rd minute after Gottlieb dribbled past her defender before her attempt was saved.
The Black Knights had two more shots come 26 seconds apart as Rozzi headed a corner kick by Holder wide of the net in the 82nd minute before Samantha Sullenger fired an attempt high in the 83rd minute. The Black Knights received one of their best attempts of the afternoon late in the 83rd minute when Brooke Hepfer sent a hard shot on target that Parisi got a piece of and tipped just over the crossbar.
Army finishes its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31 when the Black Knights travel to face Bucknell at noon.
