WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point women's soccer team returns to Clinton Field when it hosts American on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
Army enters Saturday's match with a 2-1-1 Patriot League and is tied for second in the conference standings with seven points. In their last conference contest, the Black Knights blanked Lehigh 2-0. Overall, they are 4-8-1, but own a 3-1-1 record at home.
Army is one of three teams tied for second in the Patriot League standings, along with Bucknell and Loyola. Boston University leads the conference with 10 points and all three of the aforementioned teams remain on Army's schedule. The Black Knights opened Patriot League action with a 2-2 tie against Navy, beat Lafayette and Lehigh and lost at Holy Cross. Senior forward Katie Holder has registered a point in all four conference games.
American picked up its first Patriot League victory last time out when it topped Lafayette in double overtime. Kelly Donovan scored the game winning with 1:40 remaining off an assist by Marley Jennings, who set up both Eagles' goals in the win. American comes into Saturday's match at 4-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Patriot League, with a draw against Boston University and losses to Colgate and Loyola.
Donovan has a team-high three goals, while Jennings, Audrey Denkler and Jojo Miller have two each for the Eagles. In goal, Charlene Belanger has started eight matches, owns a 1.38 goals-against average and a 2-4-1 record. Courtney Bembenek has four starts in net and five appearances, and is 2-3-0 with a 1.74 goals-against average.
In 16 all-time meetings, American leads the series 5-4-7. The Black Knights defeated the Eagles 2-1 last season in Washington, D.C. Katie Holder and Clare Shea each scored for Army and Pam Wishart set up both goals.
