Shea’s Late Tally Forces 1-1 Draw

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Army West Point women's soccer team saw junior Clare Shea finish off its first penalty kick of the season to draw 1-1 with American here Sunday afternoon.
The hosts pulled in front 1-0 in the 33rd minute when Samm Francucci found the back of the net. The Black Knights would not waver though and eventually earned themselves a penalty kick opportunity 40 minutes later that would knot the score.
Despite outshooting the Eagles 2-1 in the extra two periods, Army and American both earned a point in the Patriot League standings as the game would end in a tie.

- This was the second year in a row the matchup ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw.

- The Black Knights held the edge on shots at 14-8 and on shots on goal at 8-5.
- Army forced American's goalie to make seven saves, while Jordan Cassalia posted four.
- The visitors also earned five corner kicks to none for the hosts.
- Shea led all players with six shots, four of which that were on frame.
- Sullenger added two shots, while six other Black Knights tallied one shot each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A little more than a minute after entering the game, Francucci netted her first career goal at the 32:10 mark when she finished off a cross from Kyanna Alleyne.
- After a well-driven shot from Grace Blackwell forced the Eagles' goalie to make a great save, Army was awarded a penalty kick opportunity a few seconds later. Shea stepped up and placed it into the back of the goal for the Black Knights first score of the season from the penalty mark.
- Army tried to break the deadlock in the remaining 18 minutes but the game was forced into extra time.
- The Black Knights picked up two corner kicks late in the second overtime period but were unable to tally the go-ahead goal.
