LAST TIME OUT
The Black Knights suffered their first loss of the season against Yale this past Sunday by a score of 5-2. Army secured the point in doubles following victories from the pairings of Sam Lampman and Michael Nguyen and Kyle Barnes and Austin McCasin. Nguyen would be the only Black Knight to win in singles with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 conquest in the sixth singles position.
McCasin was ultimately named the Patriot League Player of the Week. The senior started the season 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles and has not dropped a set this season.
SCOUTING FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Florida Atlantic's season has been up and down in the early going. The Owls opened the spring with two losses, one to Miami, while capturing just four points in those two matches. They then cruised to 7-0 win over Bethune-Cookman and 5-2 win against Florida A&M before splitting their next two against Florida Gulf Coast (4-3 loss) and Central Florida (5-2 win).
Remi Chancerel sports an undefeated record in singles play. The sophomore is 4-0 when operating in the number three singles position and won his lone match in the second position.
SCOUTING MIAMI (Fla.)
Miami upset previously ranked Troy its last time on the court by a score of 4-3 after defeating Central Florida 5-2 the day before. Before that, the Hurricanes had started the year 1-3.
Nationally-ranked Piotr Lomacki is Miami's best player. The No. 58 ranked singles player according to the ITA is 4-2 in singles play this season but is coming off a loss to Troy's Daniel Bustamante, the 114th ranked singles player in the nation.
SERIES HISTORY
Florida Atlantic holds the all-time series edge over Army. The Owls are 7-1 against the Cadets, but the two schools have not met since 2002 and never with Jim Poling at the helm of Army.
This is the first ever meeting between the Black Knights and Hurricanes.
NEXT UP: Saturday, February 19 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart – 2 p.m.
Army will return home to face two squads that they defeated last year. Fairleigh Dickinson suffered a 6-1 loss to the Black Knights at the Lichtenberg Center last season while Sacred Heart was defeated 7-0 in the same venue. The Knights have competed just once this spring, a 7-0 loss to St. John's, while the Pioneers are 1-1 with three matches scheduled to play before facing Army.
