Miami Sweeps Men’s Tennis in First Ever Meeting

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Army West Point men's tennis team was shutout against Miami (Fla.) today by a score of 5-0. The Black Knights and Hurricanes, meeting for the first time in their histories, were scheduled to play a second match but it was cancelled due to rain. Army falls to 3-2 on the young season while Miami improves to 4-3.
The Black Knights challenged the Hurricanes in a few matches. Notably Grant Riechmann took the first set against nationally ranked Piotr Lomacki. The Cadets junior took the first set 6-2 but the Lomacki, who entered as the No. 58 player in the nation according to the ITA, rallied to win 6-1 in the second set before taking the final set 6-2.
Riechmann also teamed with Harrison McCormick and nearly won the top doubles match against Jesse Flores and Christian Langmo. The Miami duo took the 6-4 victory to secure the doubles point.
Michael Nguyen took his opponent to the third set in the fifth singles position. After falling 7-5 in the opening frame, Nguyen rallied to take the second set 6-1. The Hurricanes Niclas Genovese won the final set 4-1.
Army returns home for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 20, against Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart. The first match against the Knights is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
