Men’s Tennis to Face Minnesota, Illinois State

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team heads out of the Eastern Standard Time zone for the first time this season with two matches in Minneapolis, Minn., this weekend. The Black Knights face Minnesota on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. EST and then take on Illinois State on Sunday, Feb. 28, at noon EST. Both matches will take place at the Golden Gophers Baseline Tennis Center.
Army won each of its matches last week and possess a 5-2 record this season. Minnesota, who was ranked 45th last week, is now unranked after dropping three-straight matches and now owns a 3-7 record. The Redbirds are 4-4 this year but have lost four consecutive bouts.

LAST TIME OUT
The Black Knights defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 4-2 and Sacred Heart 5-0 in a Saturday doubleheader. Junior Grant Riechmann won each of his Saturday matches playing in the top singles position to improve his record to 3-3 in singles play this year, all in the top flight.
Senior Austin McCasin was the only other Black Knight to go undefeated in singles play in multiple matches. He won 6-3, 6-4 against the Knights and 6-1, 6-1 versus the Pioneers. Each match came in the fifth singles position.
SCOUTING MINNESOTA
The Golden Gophers closed last season ranked 21st in the nation and began the spring as the 23rd-ranked team but have since fallen. They have particularly struggled on the road, posting a 0-4 record, but are back home for this event. However, Minnesota is just 1-3 in its last four home matches, picking up just 10 points.
Matic Spec and Felix Corwin are one of the best doubles pairs in the nation. The 14th-ranked doubles team in the nation is 1-1 this spring including a win over the ninth-ranked duo at the time of Arjun Kadhe and Julian Cash of Oklahoma State.
SCOUTING ILLINOIS STATE
Illinois State opened the season with four wins but have since matched that with four straight losses. Three of the four losses have come by the score of 4-3.
Christoffer Greve and Dylan Steffens have each been impressive in the lower flights for the Redbirds this season. Greve is 8-0 across the third, fourth, and fifth singles positions while Steffens boasts a 7-0 record across the bottom three flights. Together, the two are 5-1 in the third doubles positions this spring.
SERIES HISTORY
This is the first time Army has faced either of these two schools.
NEXT UP: Friday, March 4 vs. NJIT – 6 p.m.
