Box Score
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Army West Point men's tennis team lost 7-0 on the road to Minnesota Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights record slips to 5-3 and the Golden Gophers end a three-match losing streak to improve to 4-7.
Multiple Cadets performed admirably against a Minnesota team that opened the spring as the 23rd-ranked team in the nation. In the top singles flight, junior Grant Riechmann took the first set 6-3 against Matic Spec. The next two sets went 6-4, 6-2 in favor of the Golden Gophers top player but it was the second time in as many matches this season that Riechmann pushed a player from a power five conference into a third set.
Sophomore Michael Nguyen pushed the first set into a tiebreaker but ultimately lost in the number four slot 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. For Nguyen it was his first lost this spring as he falls to 3-1.
Senior Harrison McCormick went to a tiebreaker in both sets but lost in the sixth singles position 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4) against Jeremy Lynn.
The Black Knights will remain in Minneapolis, Minn., for a neutral site match against Illinois State tomorrow. First serve with the Redbirds is set for noon EST.
