Poling Seeks 200th Win as Army Begins Spring Slate

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team starts its 2016 spring season this weekend with a chance to reach a milestone for head coach Jim Poling. Poling, in his 15th season at Army, boasts 199 career wins at the academy as the Black Knights play host to Connecticut and Wagner on Friday, Feb. 5, and then Yale on Sunday, Feb. 7.
The dual meet with the Huskies is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., the Seahawks play Army at 6 p.m. that day, and then the Bulldogs and Cadets meet at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Black Knights and Wagner are each competing for the first time this spring while UConn enters at 0-4 and Yale is 2-2 on the young season.

Army returns a plethora of talent from last season. Senior Caison Best, who serves as team captain, went 3-0 in Patriot League contests last year and 6-7 in dual meets. Junior Grant Riechmann is coming off a strong fall season. The Houston, Texas, native was the only member of the Black Knights to make it past the opening round of the singles draw at the ITA Northeast Regionals back in October. He lost to the top seed from Brown.
Riechmann also teamed with senior Harrison McCormick in doubles to advance to the second round before losing the No. 2 seed from Dartmouth. The duo of Riechmann and McCormick sported a 15-5 record last year including a perfect 5-0 in conference play in doubles.
On the singles side, Riechmann was 19-16 overall last year but had a perfect 5-0 record when performing in the top two singles positions. McCormick was a perfect 5-0 in singles last spring.
SCOUTING CONNECTICUT
The Huskies have been on the losing end of each of their first four matches to launch the spring. Most recently, they lost to St. John's 4-0. UConn has most notably struggled in doubles, where they've been swept in three of their four matches, compiling a 2-10 record.
Jacob Spreyer is the only Husky with a victory in one of the top two singles positions this year. The senior has posted a 1-2 record playing in the top singles spot.
SCOUTING WAGNER
Wagner's fall schedule featured a number of dual meets in which the Seahawks posted a 6-1 record. Charlton Boyd and Ilya Kneppelhout combined to go 4-0 in dual matches in the fall while Boyd posted a 6-0 record in singles and Kneppelhout going 5-0 in duals.
Last spring, Wagner posted a 7-10 record and lost in the Northeast Conference Championship to top-seeded Bryant.
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs are coming off two wins last Sunday against Boston College and Monmouth by identical scores of 5-2. Yale features two players ranked by in the ITA Division I Men's National Singles Rankings. Tyler Lu enters the weekend No. 80 in the nation while Ziqi Wang is No. 118. Lu has yet to compete this season while Wang has posted a 2-1 record in the top singles position for the Bulldogs this season.
SERIES HISTORY
Army holds a 12-2 advantage against Connecticut and have won the last three meetings between the two schools.
The Black Knights and Seahawks have only met once, which was a 7-0 victory for Army in 1999.
Army and Yale have a deep history in men's tennis. This is the 75th meeting between the two in what marks the diamond anniversary. The Black Knights have only played Navy (96), Cornell (78), and Columbia (78) more. The series started in 1925, and they last met in the spring of 2012 when the Bulldogs swept Army 7-0. Yale holds a 63-11 advantage.

The Cadets make their first road trip of the season as they head to the Sunshine State next weekend for dates with Florida Atlantic and Miami. Both the Owls and Hurricanes are 3-3 to start the season with Miami winning the meeting between the two, 5-2.
NEW VISITOR POLICY
New policies have been put in place regarding visitors to West Point. People using a driver's license from the states of Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico or Washington will have to use another approved form of identification in order to enter West Point and all other military installations, due to federal guidelines. If you possess a valid Department of Defense issued identification card, this new requirement does not affect your ability to enter military installations.
Acceptable alternate forms of identification are a U.S. passport, a permanent resident card/Alien Registration Receipt Card (form 1-551), a foreign passport with a temporary I-551 stamp or visa or an employment authorization document that contains a photograph (Form I-766).
