WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team played for the first time in over two weeks and showed little signs of rust defeating both LIU Brooklyn and Holy Cross 5-0. The Cadets have now won eight straight and stand at 15-3 this season. The Blackbirds slip to 0-9 and the Crusaders drop to 0-3 this spring with all three matches in the Patriot League.
Army did not drop a singles set against LIU Brooklyn among the four completed matches. Freshman Kirby Einck extended her winning streak in singles to nine straight topping Malin Leysen 6-3, 6-2 in the third singles slot. She is now 11-3 in dual matches.
The pairing of senior Carolyn Pitman and Einck remained perfect in doubles with two wins today with a 6-4 win against the Blackbirds and 6-2 against Holy Cross. They now stand at 11-0 this season while Pitman increases her career doubles win total to 102.
The singles matches against the Crusaders featured one Black Knight picking up her first win of 2016 in the Cadets conference opener of the year. Junior Caroline Lorenzini cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the sixth singles position.
Genevieve McCormick moved to 3-0 in the number one singles spot. The freshman won 6-1, 6-0 and is now 9-5 in the spring.
