WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Jesse Glenn of the Army West Point gymnastics team earned a pair of individual titles the final day to add to his all-around crown the first day in closing out the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships as the Senior Athlete of the Year.
Freshman Cole Casanova was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year, Â Doug Van Everen repeated as the ECAC Coach of the Year after co-sharing that honor with Navy's Kip Simmons, while Carmine Giglio and Carl Schrade were named Co-Assistants of the Year with Navy's Craig Holt as Army had a hand in four of the five major awards.Â
A three-time 2016 ECAC champion, Glenn defended his title for the third straight year on high bar posting a score of 15.10 in leading an Army sweep of the top three spots with Nathan Goff earning runner-up honors (14.7) and Leo Genders placing third (14.4) with all three earning  All-ECAC honors (top six).
It is the third time in the last four meets that Glenn scored in the 15-pont range on high bar where he is ranked No. 2 nationally. In Saturday's prelims, he finished first tying his career high 15.45. Â
Claiming his first ECAC champion on floor exercise (14.3) and ninth conference title in his career, Glenn is a three-time all-around and high bar champion, along with claiming honors on vault, parallel bars and floor exercise.
Glenn garnered all-conference honors in all five of the individual events he competed in at host William & Mary's Kaplan Arena. In addition to medalist honors on high bar and floor exercised, he was third on vault (14.9), fourth on parallel bars (14.0) and fifth on pommel horse (13.7). He is just the second Black Knight to be named the ECAC Senior Athlete of the Year and the first since Troy Pazcoguin was selected in 2002.
Casanova competed in three events with a career-high 14.55 earning him fifth place on still rings followed by a sixth on pommel horse (13.55) and tenth on vault (13.15). Â He is the sixth Black Knight to earn ECAC rookie honors and third in the last three years joining teammates Sam Kusnitz (2014) and Goff (2015).
Genders, competing in two events, finished eighth on floor exercise (13.55). Rounding out the rest of Army's contingent was Elliott Herman, who set a career-mark placing seventh on still rings, Ryan Wilson who just missed equaling his personal best behind a 14.2 in that event, with Kusnitz posting a 13.4 in finishing ninth on vault as seven Black Knights qualified for the individual finals.
"It was a great performance by the team," said Van Everen after copping his fourth ECAC coaching honor in his career. "We did well, won our conference and some events and now we look forward to competing at the NCAA Championships."
Army tied with Navy for the ECAC team title with identical scores of 423.4 the first day for just the second tie and first in conference history since 1985. The Midshipmen won the tie-breaker for the automatic NCAA qualifier on the higher score at the neutral-site All-Academy Championships where Navy scored a 424.1 and the Black Knights a 422.85.
