Women’s Tennis Travels to Albany for Midweek Matinee

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team takes a trip north tomorrow morning to face the University at Albany in a non-conference match scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Black Knights enter the contest riding a 10-game winning streak and are 17-3 overall while the Great Danes enter at 9-6.

LAST TIME OUTArmy topped Navy in the Star Match, 6-1, behind a number of gutsy efforts in singles play. Senior Carolyn Pitman had to battle back from 6-3 first set loss to win, 6-4, 6-3, in the next two sets for the win. Freshman Rugile Valuniate extended her match into tiebreakers in each of the first two sets for a, 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (8-6), victory. Junior Nancy Porter then took the win in the sixth singles position 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Pitman is undefeated in her career against Navy. She has gone 6-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles against the Midshipmen.
SCOUTING ALBANY
The Great Danes have split their last four matches following a four-game winning streak. The America East runner-ups from last year are coming off a 4-2 loss to St. John's at home. They have earned recent wins over NJIT and Fordham by the score of 5-2.
SERIES HISTORY
The Black Knights boast a 19-1 record against Albany all-time. The Great Danes only win came by the score of 4-3 in 2012. The Cadets won 4-3 the last time the two met in 2014.
NEXT UP: Saturday, April 9 vs Boston University & Sunday, April 10 vs. Bucknell
Army closes out the home portion of its schedule with a pair of conference meetings this weekend. The first comes against Boston University on Saturday, April 9, at 11 a.m. Bucknell travels to West Point on Sunday, April 10, with first serve at 10 a.m.
Before the match with the Bison, four seniors will be honored. Haley O'Connor, Carolyn Pitman, Gabriella Spindler, and Eva Sung will all be recognized before Sunday's match.
