ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- This marked the Black Knights first overtime contest of the early season.
- Four cadets notched two shots each to lead Army, they were Samantha Sullenger, Brianna Nicholas, Clare Shea, and Lauryn Westman.
- Carly Katalinic and Nicole Bautista recorded the Black Knights other two shots in the match.
- Seton Hall outshot its host 13-10, but for the second game in a row the Black Knights compiled more second-half shots than their opponent (6-4 edge in second period).
- Army finished with seven corner kicks to Seton Hall's two, but weren't able to find the back of the net.
- Shea nearly put the Black Knights in front just before halftime when her header off a Sydney Witham corner kick almost snuck in under the crossbar.
- Army tried to break the deadlock midway through the second 45 minutes when it recorded back-to-back near misses from Sullenger and Westman.
- Cassalia then kept the game scoreless when she made a brilliant diving save on Katie Landes shot from inside the 18-yard box with less than five minutes to play in regulation.
- The senior again kept the Black Knights alive, this time in the extra period, when stuffed Landes for the second time following a hard-driven shot.
- Cassalia finished with six saves.
KEY MOMENT
- Cassalia's save from point-blank range with five minutes to play in regulation proved to be a key moment for Army as it kept the game knotted at 0-0 and ultimately extended the match to overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Seton Hall's Tanika Roach collected the ball in the Pirates defensive end and quickly played it up the center of the field to a running McGovern. The rookie took a few touches sparking a breakaway opportunity. Cassalia came off her line and made a great save on McGovern's initial shot but wasn't able to fall on the rebound fast enough as the Cranford, N.J. native just got a touch on it to secure her team the win.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights head on the road for their first away test of the year at Syracuse on Friday. That contest is slated for a 3 p.m. start at Syracuse's Soccer Stadium. Live stats will be available.
