ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- With the win, Syracuse pulls the all-time series to 2-2.
- Both teams notched eight shots each but the Orange held the slight 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
- Sophomore Jade Jamison led the Black Knights with two shots, one of which was on frame.
- Six other cadets finished with one shot each in Samantha Sullenger, Brianna Nicholas, Sydney Witham, Clare Shea, Lauryn Westman, and Nicole Bautista.
- The Black Knights earned five corner kicks, four in the second half alone, to Syracuse's two.
- Trailing 1-0, Army was knocking on the door when Westman redirected a shot off a corner kick with 25 minutes remaining. Her volley sailed just wide of the goal.
- The Black Knights were again on the attack this time with 10 minutes to play when a Nicholas' shot was deflected over the goalie's head and almost into the back of the net.
- From that play, Army was awarded a corner kick. Sydney Witham sent in a great ball toward the back post for a waiting Shea. The junior tried her luck on frame but the off-balanced shot bounced around in front of the net where Jamison nearly finished it home. Fortunately for the home team, Army's final attempt on the play went just high over the crossbar.
- The Black Knights had one final last-ditch effort with a little more than one minute remaining. Jamison intercepted the ball deep in Syracuse's defensive half. The sophomore then slid the ball over to a running Bautista at the top of the box. Unfortunately, the rookie's one-time shot grazed over the crossbar and out of play.
- Senior Jordan Cassalia posted two saves in the contest, bringing her season mark to 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Syracuse's Maddie Iozzi played a corner kick into the box at the 52:58 mark. The ball bounced around in front of the net with both Sheridan Street and Taylor Bennett getting slight touches on it. The ball finally found the foot of Gordon, who poked it away for the eventual game-winner.
UP NEXT
- Army is back on the road Monday when it travels to Harvard for a 7 p.m. tilt on Jordan Field. This will be the second all-time meeting between the teams with the Crimson taking the victory just a season ago, 1-0.
