Army Heads to Patriot League Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After a couple of weeks rest, the Army West Point men's swimming and diving team is ready for the Patriot League Championships, which is set to begin on Wednesday at Bucknell.
The four-day event at Kinney Natatorium will begin with the women's three-meter diving trials on Wednesday at 2 p.m., with the day's event finals starting at 6 p.m. Swimming preliminaries begin on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by finals each of the three days at 6 p.m.

Heading into the Patriot League Championship, the Black Knights led the men's side this season with six swimmers holding the best time in seven of the NCAA sanctioned individual swimming events.

Thomas Ottman has the best time in two events entering the competitions this week. He is the top swimmer in the 500 free and the 1650 free. Ottman has swam a 4:26.09 in the 500 free and a NCAA B time of 15:22.66 in the 1650 free.

Evin Rude is the top qualifying swimmer in the 200 free after setting an NCAA B time of 1:36.77, while Josh Sembrano is the leader in the 100 back at 48.39 seconds. Jason Rodriguez comes into the weekend with the best time in the 100 fly at 47.90 seconds, which is an NCAA B time, and Peter Mikheyev has a NCAA B time, clocking in at 1:48.44 in the 200 individual medley.

Navy comes into the event as the favorite as the Mids have captured six-straight sweeps at the championships, but Army will look to end that streak this week.
