COACH'S CORNER
- "Really proud of our guys, especially at the top end. I cant remember us winning as many races to start a meet and to come out take the medley relay, the 800 free relay last night and then kick things off today with Tom Ottman's performance in the 500 free, breaking the oldest record in the books, which was set in 1990 by Mark Matheson, who I have tremendous respect for. The record was 4:24.99, so he crushed it in one of the toughest swims as Tom came back and led for about 300 yards and two guys came and challenged and he out-sprinted them at the end to win it. That performance was back up by Peter Mikheyev winning the 200 IM and as a plebe to have the poise and toughness to get up there as the top seed and win it at night, shows a lot about this guy's character. Then McCredie defending his title in the 50 free was awesome and so to keep winning races and then Hudson taking second on the 1-meter board was great. Our medley relay was a little disappointing to get beat, but it was a school record and I like where we are at. A little disappointed in the number of people who qualified this morning, which was a little bit less than we were hoping for, but we have our chance tomorrow and we are only about a third of the way through the championsihps."
SECOND DAY RESULTS
- Ottman got the Black Knights off and swimming in the opening final of the night in the 500 free as he broke a 27-year old academy record with a time of 4:22.63.
- Ottman broke the record that was previously held by Mark Matheson, who swam a 4:24.99 in 1990.
- Mikheyev continued his great swimming on Thursday by breaking his own 200 individual medley academy record with a time of 1:47.18 in the prelims.
- He followed that up with a 1:47.33 NCAA B cut time of 1:47.33 to take home the Patriot League title in the event.
- Jay Yang came in seventh in the A Final, clocking in at 1:50.25.
- The wins kept coming with Brandon McCredie taking home Army's third title of the night. He swam the 50 free in a time of 19.93 seconds for an NCAA B time and just missed the academy record in the event.
- Devin McCall finished seventh for the Black Knights in the event, clocking in at 20.59 seconds.
- Another record fell in the final event of the night as the foursome of Josh Sembrano, Joseph Daniels, Sean Regan and Evin Rude narrowly broke the record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:13.35.
