WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point volleyball team turned out a 3-0 sweep over crosstown rival Marist Tuesday night at Gillis Field House.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- The Black Knights improved to 4-3 on the year after Tuesday night's victory.
- Amber Clay was a powerhouse on both sides of the ball with 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double.
- Nikki Lum also recorded a double-double on 24 assists and 12 digs.
- Carolyn Bockrath notched 11 kills and hit at .500, while Jaden Pickell boasted a .571 hitting percentage on eight kills. Vanessa Wesley also had a hitting percentage over .545 with six kills on the night, but Rachel Gearon came into the third set and notched six kills for a .600.
- Ana Oglivie turned out 12 digs and added a service ace.
- Army held a 47-31 advantage in kills and also led in assists (44-31), digs (48-37) and blocks (12-5).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights and Red Foxes held a close first set with Army pulling ahead 17-13 before going on a 3-1 run to claim the 20th point.
- Then kills from Bockrath, Clay, Monica Eckford and Haven Bethune pushed the Cadets to claim the set 25-16 after a 5-3 run.
- Army closed out the first set with a .560 hitting percentage as a team, a season-high.
- The Red Foxes kept a close score in the second set, but Army was able to pull away to a 22-18 lead after four straight points.
- Bockrath and Wesley earned kills in the stretch before a Marist error and a block by Wesley and Bethune gave Army the edge.
- The Red Foxes bounced back with a point, but kills from Pickell bookended one from Allie Strong to win the set 25-19.
- Army charged ahead 18-12 in the final set. Marist attempted a comeback, but the Black Knights closed them out with help from Gearon's six kill performance.
- Clay and Gearon teamed up for a block followed by a kill by each of them to wrap up the match with a 25-17 set score.
TURNING POINT
- The Black Knights' .560 hitting percentage as a team in the first set gave Army the momentum to blank Marist 3-0.

- Army will next play in the DePaul Invitational where the Black Knights face host DePaul, Northwestern and Milwaukee on Sept. 8-9.
