Rosenberger Rallies Black Knights Past Binghamton

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team kicked off Ring Weekend with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Binghamton Friday afternoon at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
Rookie Kalie Rosenberger netted a pair of goals in the 53rd and 75th minutes to erase a 1-0 deficit for the Black Knights and continue the team's unbeaten start to the 2018 campaign. She became the sixth different Army player to score a goal through the first four games.
Army moves to 3-0-1 on the season, its best start since winning the first six games of 1997. The Bearcats fall to 1-1-1, becoming the third team to suffer their first loss against the Black Knights.
Rosenberger scored a game-high four points, while seniors Kayleigh Stallings and Sarah Chamberlin, along with sophomore Erynn Johns, each tallied one assist in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
- Army's first chance of the game came in the 13th minute when sopohomore Morgan Walsh sent a cross to Johns at the top of the box with an open look at the goal.
- Sophomore Sydney Cassalia made the play of the game in the 24th minute after a turnover allowed a Binghamton player on a breakaway. The Omaha, Neb., native was able to cut down the angle before making a diving stop at the penalty spot to keep the game scoreless.
- Binghamton broke out the scoreless tie with a goal in the 46th minute when a long pass found the feet of Kayla Saager who pushed in her own rebound for the goal.
- Seven minutes later, Johns sent a cross into the box from the right which made its way back to Rosenberger. The rookie approached the ball and fired a one-time shot into the back of the net for the equalizer.
- In the 75th minute, Stallings played Chamberlin who sent a through ball into the box for Rosenberger. She chipped the goalkeeper from six-yards out to give Army its first lead of the game.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Seniors Nikiay Comer, Lauryn Westman, Sydney Witham, Chamberlin and Stallings all received their class rings during the Ring Ceremony at Trophy Point following the game.
- Head coach Adrian Blewitt's 3-0-1 record is the best to start a career at Army since Gene Ventriglia started 4-0-0 in 1986.
- Johns stretched her point streak to five games, the longest streak since 2010 when Kim An recorded a point in seven consecutive matches.
- The Austin, Texas, native currently leads the Patriot League in assists with four and tied for second in points with six.
- Rosenberger is the first Army player to score twice in the same game since Samantha Sullenger accomplished the feat against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 18, 2016.
- She is the first Army freshman with a two-goal game in the last eight years.
- Chamberlin notched her first-career point with an assist.
- Stallings posted the fifth point of her career.
- Cassalia has made a Patriot League-high 19 saves.
