Sprint Football Powers Past Post, 58-7

The Black Knights (3-1, 2-0 CSFL North) had seven players record touchdowns on the evening. Matthew Sauter, Tate Blessinger, Ryan Sullivan, Kraig Hamilton, Jack Felgar, Ben West and Kameron Miller each found the end zone, with Sauter leading the way with a pair of scores.
Leading the defensive effort was Caleb Doyle with 12 tackles, including two for a loss of yards. As a unit, the Black Knights held the Eagles (0-4, 0-1 CSFL North) to 58 yards of total offense, including just four yards on the ground.
Offensively, the Cadets accounted for 305 yards of total offense on 81 plays. Seven different members of the Black Knights recorded receptions, led by Justin Charette, who reeled in five passes for a total of 70 yards.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- In its two divisional games this season, the Black Knights are outscoring CSFL North opponents 107-7.
- Head coach Mark West is now just two wins shy of tying Bob Thompson (1986-97) for the second most wins in program history. The 11th year coach registered his 62nd career win.
- This marked the first time that Sauter registered two touchdowns in a game. In addition to it being his first career receiving touchdown, his 45-yard reception was his longest of the season.
- Doyle's 12 tackles on the evening marked a new career high for the freshman. It also came on the heels of his 10-tackle performance against Cornell.
- Blessinger's 40-yard pick six was his first career touchdown and his second career interception.
- Army was the beneficiary of great field position for the entirety of the game, as the Cadets started nine drives in Post territory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- The Black Knights set the tone early with an 11-play 45-yard drive that was capped off by a four-yard run by Sauter to give Army the early 7-0 lead with 6:07 remaining in the first.
- On Post's ensuing drive, Blessinger stepped in front of a pass and ran it back up the sideline for a defensive score to put Army ahead 14-0 with 4:15 remaining in the opening frame.
- Sullivan extended the Black Knights lead to 21-0 with just over a minute left in the first on a quarterback-keeper from 11 yards out.
Second Quarter
- Sauter found the end zone for the second time on the evening on catch and run that went 45 yards on the first play of the drive. The touchdown put the Black Knights ahead 28-0 with 11:21 left in the second quarter.
- The Black Knights' fifth touchdown came on a 24-yard connection between Hamilton and Sullivan with 4:49 left in the opening half to put Army ahead 35-0.
- Army tacked on one more score before the first half came to a close, as Felgar closed out a five-play 30-yard drive with a one-yard plunge into the end zone to put the Cadets up 42-0.
Third Quarter
- Post got on the board in the opening minute of the second half with a 30-yard pass from Nick D'Elia to Jake Butler. The play cut Army's lead to 42-7.
- The Black Knights responded with two scores in the third quarter. Seppi Ortman drilled a 32-yard field goal attempt with 11 minutes remaining in the quarter before West found the end zone on a three-yard keeper with 4:15 remaining in the frame to put the Black Knights ahead 52-7.
Fourth Quarter
- The lone scoring drive of the final frame took up over seven and a half minutes. The 14-play 58-yard drive was capped off by a three-yard scoring rush from Miller, which put the Cadets ahead 58-7.
UP NEXT
The Cadets will have their bye week before welcoming Caldwell for a 1 p.m. kick off on Saturday, Oct. 19.
