Cadets Rally, Capture First Patriot League Victory

LEWISBURG, Pa. —Down 1-0 in the 22nd minute, the Army West Point women's soccer team rallied back to earn its first Patriot League victory with a 2-1 road win at Bucknell Saturday night.
Freshmen Sydney Shafer and Alyssa Carfagno scored for the Black Knights in the win. Sydney Cassalia preserved the Cadets' lead with a penalty kick saved at the 56 minute mark.
Carfagno finished the day with a career-high three points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bucknell netted the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute.
- The Cadets knotted the score before halftime when Shafer went low on the Bison goaltender. She was assisted by Lauren Drysdale and Carfagno.
- The Bison had an opportunity to go up 2-1 with a penalty kick awarded, but a save by Cassalia gave the Black Knights the momentum they needed for the victory.
- Bucknell's Abby Gearhart lined up for th PK and Cassalia dived to her left for the stop.
- Army's Carfagno notched the game-winner with 22 minutes remaining on a volley into the net.
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights ended their three game winless streak.
- Army now owns a 4-5-3 mark and is 1-2-1 in the Patriot League.
- Bucknell falls to 4-8-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference action.
- The 2-1 victory was Army's first multi-goal game since topping LIU 2-0 on Sept. 1.
- Carfagno notched a career-high three points on her goal and assist.
- She now leads the Cadets in goals (5) and points (11).
- Shafer recorded her first career score.
- Drysdale is quite the playmaker for Army this season with a team-high four assists.
- The rookie has five points this season.
- Cassalia posted a season-high five saves.
- The Black Knights held a 15-14 advantage in shots and edged the Bison in corners (9-4).
