WEST POINT, N.Y. – After a two-week home stand, the Army West Point football team is preparing to hit the road for a game at Liberty this Saturday, Nov. 27 at 12 p.m.

The action between the Black Knights (7-3) and the Flames (7-4) will be broadcasted from Williams Stadium on ESPN+. The radio call will be found across 25 stations in nine different states via the Army Sports Network. Additionally, the call can be heard for free via the Varsity Network app. Â

Setting the Scene
- Army is riding a three-game winning streak heading into the weekend, having recently defeated Air Force (21-14 OT, Nov. 6), Bucknell (63-10, Nov. 13) and UMass (33-17, Nov. 20).
- With the victory over the Minutemen, the Black Knights achieved their sixth-straight winning season at Michie Stadium (5-1).
- During that stretch, Army has earned a 32-5 advantage over visiting teams, highlighted by three undefeated campaigns.
- A Cadet win on Saturday would push the team to 2-2 in road contests this year.
- The team is averaging 24.3 points per road game this year, while racking up an average of 44.2 at home.
- The Black Knights' lone road win of the season was a 43-10 result earned on the road at Georgia State in week one.
- That victory marked number 50 of head coach Jeff Monken's Army career.
Last of the Hard
- As a team, Army continues to be represented at the top of the nation's statistical rankings, checking into the top-10 in time of possession (36:49, first), passing yards per completion (21.09, second), rushing offense (309.3, second), first downs defense (155, third) and third down conversion percentage (.485, ninth).
- Outside linebacker Andre Carter II had one of his most dominant performances to date during the recent victory over UMass, recording 3.0 sacks for 14 yards en route to breaking the program's season sack record (12.5, 2009).
- Carter's 13.5 sacks currently top the nation and he additionally has the fifth-most tackles for loss among all defensive players (15.5) and checks in at sixth in forced fumbles per game (.40).
- The country's top defensive unit from a season ago has been in full force once again, having held opponents to 350 total yards of offense or less on three separate occasions.
- This weekend, the Cadets will look to surpass 500 yards of offense for the second time this year, having done so against UConn (504 yds.) and No. 15/16 Wake Forest (595 yds.).
Series History
- Saturday's game will be just the second in the history between the two FBS Independent schools.
- The last time the teams played was during the 2018 season, when the Cadets earned a 38-14 result at Michie Stadium (Sept. 8).
- Army scored in every period and recorded 500 yards of total offense while defending its turf in its home opener.
- Current players Cedrick Cunningham Jr., Arik Smith and Julian McDuffie made appearances during the outing as freshmen.
- The Black Knights are 2-0 against FBS Independent schools in 2021, having defeated UConn (52-21, Sept. 18) in addition to Massachusetts.
Scouting the Flames
- Liberty enters Saturday's contest on a two-game skid, having dropped results to No. 15 Ole Miss (27-14, Nov. 6) and No. 21 Louisiana (42-14, Nov. 20).
- Like Army, the Flames have also been dominant at home this year and own a 4-1 mark at Williams Stadium, which includes a 210-96 edge in scoring.
- Throughout the season, the team has received lots of national attention with two different players having been featured on prestigious watch lists: quarterback Malik Willis (Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award - Top 10 Candidate; Davey O'Brien Award – Semifinalist) and offensive lineman Thomas Sargeant (Burlsworth Trophy – Semifinalist).
- Willis currently ranks in the nation's top-10 in points responsible for (200, 10th) and passing touchdowns (23, 17th). The redshirt-junior has 10 rushing touchdowns under his belt and has recorded over 3,000 total yards of offense (3,104).
- Sargeant, who joined the team as a walk-on, has been the starting center during Willis' entire career with the flames and has been named the Flames' "Iron Man".
- As a team, Liberty ranks among the nation's leaders in passing yards per completion (180.7, 10th), red zone defense (0.742, 16th) and total defense (314.7, 13th).
- On November 5, Liberty's Department of Athletics announced that the school will be heading in a new direction by joining Conference USA starting in 2023-24.
- The Flames have been FBS Independent since 2018, when they moved up from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
- Liberty is one of four schools that accepted a bid to join C-USA, as offers were also extended to Jacksonville State, New Mexico State and Sam Houston State.
