Black Knights Top Marist, Quinnipiac In Men's Tennis Action

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins over MAAC opponents, defeating Marist and Quinnipiac on Sunday.
Doubles
Army took the doubles point after winning all three matches. In three doubles, David Gorshein and Daniel Zhou outlasted their opponents for a 7-6 win. The No. 1 team of Diego Huttepain and Samuel Eden topped Christian Mills and Dylan Friedman, 6-2, and the two doubles tandem – Jake Huarte and A.J. Woodman – won their match 6-3.
Singles
The Black Knights took five of the six singles matches. Diego Huttepain (No. 1), Nathan Jose (No. 3), Daniel Zhou (No. 4), Samuel Haikal (No. 5), and Michael Rooney (No. 6) all secured straight-set wins.
Doubles
The doubles point came down to the number one spot. Army won in three doubles when Woodman and Huarte cruised to a 6-1 victory, but Quinnipiac squeaked out a 6-4 win in two doubles.
The No. 1 team of Eden Samuel and Diego Huttepain trailed 5-2 before storming back to force a tiebreaker at 6-6. The duo won the tiebreak, 7-3, to win the point for the Black Knights.
Singles
The Black Knights took all six singles matches to complete the sweep. Woodman won in one singles, Eden cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in two singles, and Vishnu Bodavula earned a 6-3, 6-3 win int three singles to wrap up the top half of the lineup.
The bottom half fared just as well. Jake Huarte beat Shaury Sood, 6-3, 6-4, in four singles. Paul Roberts topped Bryan Schick, 6-2, 6-1, in five singles. Sam Kesti split his first two sets before winning in the super tiebreaker 10-2 in six singles.
