Rifle Drops A Pair of Road Matches

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The ninth-ranked Army West Point rifle team suffered a pair of road defeats over the weekend in its opening contests of the year. The Black Knights, making their debut under first-year head coach Leighton Dempster, fell to GARC (Great America Rifle Conference) opponents Ole Miss, 4720-4616, Saturday and host Memphis, 4676-4628, Sunday.
Junior Claudia Sigel was Army's top competitor in both meets, compiling an 1161 aggregate against the Rebels and bettered that the next day with an 1163 against the Tigers where she took third. Sigel was also the Black Knights' top scorer in smallbore over the weekend, placing fourth against Ole Miss (582) and second in the Memphis (569) meet.

Leading the way was Sigel with a 582 to place fourth with Pakkam and Espenshade rounding out Army's top three in that disciple with 572s.
Air Rifle
Sophomore Ashton O'Connell turned in Army's top mark of 583 with Pakkam one point back (582) followed by Sigel (579).

Just three points shy of third-place, Sigel, Pakkam and O'Connell each posted scores of 584.
