STORRS, Conn. --- Army West Point Softball (8-19) dropped a heartbreaker to UConn (15-11), 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon falling in the final inning to the Huskies.

How It Happened
Â
Army had a strong first inning as Jolie Duong drew a leadoff walk and Maddie Wilkes recorded the first hit of the game. The Cadets were unable to capitalize on the base runners, leaving the two on base. Army retired the side in the bottom of the first to head back to the batter's box.

The Huskies got on the board in the bottom of the first scoring one run off three hits to lead 1-0 over the Black Knights. Army was unable to answer the run in the top of the third and headed back to the field. UConn kept its momentum going by scoring one run of two hits in the bottom frame, upping its lead to 2-0 over Army.

Leila Hurst started the momentum for Army in the top of the fourth as she hit a base hit to center field. A wild pitch moved Hurst to second before Wilkes brought her home off a double down the left field line. With one runner on and one out, Lauren Little recorded an RBI single to tie the game up at 2-2. Angelina Bebek entered the game as a pinch and kept the momentum going for Army. Bebek laid down a sacrifice bunt and sprinted to first. Little, who was on third, raced home and dodged the tag at the plate, giving Army the 3-2 lead over UConn. Army finished the top of the fourth with three runs off three hits and one error.

Olivia Farris (0-11) took over in the circle for the Black Knights and helped UConn hang a zero on the scoreboard in her first inning. It was a battle of the pitchers in the fifth inning as each team was scoreless.

In the top of the seventh Little hit a leadoff single to get the bats going for Army. With one runner on and one out, Bebek recorded an RBI double to push the Black Knights' lead to 4-2 over the Huskies. Army finished the half inning with one run off three hits.

UConn answered in the bottom frame scoring one run off one hit cutting Army's lead to 4-3. The Huskies' offense rallied in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs off three hits and an error to win 5-4 over Army.
