Army Drops Heartbreaker to Colgate

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Softball (20-32, 10-8 PL) fell in the Sunday finale to Colgate (19-26, 9-9 PL), 2-1, in nine innings, to close out the regular season.
The Black Knights escaped with the series victory after sweeping the Raiders on Saturday.
The game opened with a double off the bat of Leila Hurst, but the Cadet was left on base. Jolie Duong earned the start in circle for Army. She retired five-straight batters in the first to second inning.
Army got on the board in the top of the third. Angelina Bebek hit a single up the middle to get the momentum going and didn't stop there as she stole second during the next at bat. Hurst launched an RBI single up the middle to put Army on the board first, 1-0.
Colgate answered back in the bottom of the third scoring one run on two hits and an error. The teams were silent for the next four innings of regulation. Doung tossed 6.0 innings for Army throwing five strikeouts. Emily Iannotti (7-7) entered the bottom of the seventh. She retired two batters in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The Firstie retired six-straight Raiders from the seventh to the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth Colgate's bats heated up and the Raiders scored one run off three hits to walk away with the 2-1 victory over Army.

Army travels to Boston, Mass. for the 2022 Patriot League Tournament on Thursday, May 12, when the Black Knights take on Lehigh at 2:30 p.m.
