Gymnastics Sets Season-Best Team Score to Defeat Springfield on Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point gymnastics put the finishing touches on its regular-season finale sending retiring head coach Doug Van Everen and his seniors out on a winning note at home in its 396.65-392.10 win over Springfield College Saturday afternoon at Gross Sports Center.
The Black Knights' team score (396.65) is a season high, breaking the former record of 393.15 set against Navy. Army was first in four of the six team events, breaking season marks on pommel horse (66.6) and parallel bars (67.20) and coming up shy on vault (70.25).
Joseph Buselmeier, high bar (13.05), Gabe Almeida, floor exercise (14.10), Patrick Armstrong, still rings (13.6) and Blaze Kennedy, pommel horse (13.6), were individual winners. Almeida, Armstrong and Kennedy each set career marks in their events.
Armstrong was runner-up on parallel bars posting a 13.65, just shy of his career mark. Buselmeier took second in the all-around scoring (76.95), placed third on parallel bars (13.6- just off his career 13.65), and tied with Springfield's Dominic Ramalho for third on high bar (12.9).
Maddox Pabellon and Zachary Perez placed third in their respective events with Pabellon setting a career mark on vault (14.2) and Perez posting a 12.95 on still rings.
Also placing among the leaders with fourth-place finishes were Kennedy (parallel bars, 13.45), Jacob Nauman (tied on floor exercise, 13.3), Pabellon (tied, pommel horse (13.5), and Corban Barstow (tied, vault, 14.1).
