Scovens' Heroics Not Enough As Men's Hoops Drops Heartbreaker in Overtime

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Josh Scovens hit a shot no one will ever forget to send the game to overtime but ultimately it wasn't enough as the Black Knights fell in overtime 64-56 to Lafayette.

Scovens had a game much like the last overtime the Black Knights played, he had it working early and often and finished with 24 points on 61.5 percent shooting from the field, 80 percent from three, and 100 percent from the free throw line. He also added three boards and a block to his stat line. This is the fourth time this season he's scored 20 or more points. No other Black Knight has done it more than once.

Abe Johnson also had an impressive game, dropping his third career double-double and his second in the last three games. He finished with 12 points and 10 boards.

Down two with 2.4 seconds left, Army inbounding the ball, had it tipped out of bounds and it left 1.9 on the clock. Charlie Peterson got the ball to Scovens about four feet behind the three point line. He spun around and nailed the shot to send the game to overtime.

In overtime Lafayette gained control and would come away with the win.

Scovens added to his case for Patriot League Rookie of the Year with an impressive week where he averaged 20.5 points across two games on 61.5 percent shooting from the floor, 50 percent from three, and 80 percent from the charity stripe.

Next up for the Black Knights is a trip to Lehigh on Wednesday, Feb. 7 before returning home for the Star Game presented by USAA at 1:30 PM on Saturday, Feb. 10.
