Softball Drops Midweek Game to Siena

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point Softball team (4-23) faced off against Siena (14-8) on Wednesday afternoon, ultimately falling 10-4. Due to inclement weather, the second game of the doubleheader was canceled.
Siena quickly took the lead in the first inning, with Emma Petersen of the Saints hitting a single to center field for an RBI.
The Black Knights responded promptly in the bottom of the first as Ashton White grounded to the shortstop, bringing Kayla Edwards home to tie the score.
Army's starting pitcher, Katelyn Flanders, delivered strong innings, allowing only one hit and zero runs through the top of the fifth.
Army managed to score two more runs in subsequent innings. In the bottom of the second, Mia Bonsignore secured an RBI, bringing Julia Farris home. Then, in the bottom of the fifth, Ashton White delivered another key RBI, extending the score to 3-1.
However, Siena turned the game around in the top of the sixth, with Petersen hitting a three-run home run to kickstart a scoring spree. The Saints added six more runs before Army's relief pitcher, Lauren Levendoski, halted their advance.
Despite Levendoski's efforts to stem Siena's momentum, Army couldn't mount a comeback, resulting in a 10-3 defeat.
Despite the loss, Ashton White of Army had a strong performance, going three-for-four with two RBIs. Kayla Edwards, Julia Farris, Emma Murchison, and Sam Bocis also contributed hits during the game.
NEXT UP
The Black Knights will return to action this weekend for their second Patriot League series of the season. They will travel to Lewisburg, PA, to take on Bucknell on Saturday and Sunday.
