STANFORD, CA - Army West Point women's lacrosse (2-5, 0-0 Patriot League) fell by a score of 17-8 at RV Stanford (4-2, 0-0 Pac-12) on Saturday afternoon from Cagan Stadium.
The Black Knights scored just once in the second half after trailing 8-7 at halftime, having used a 4-0 run to get back into the game after trailing 8-3. Julia Gorajek, Allison Reilly and Lily Valentini each scored a pair of goals for Army while Brigid Duffy logged a career-high 11 draw controls to go along with a team-high three points. The Cardinal got out to a blazing start, scoring three times in the opening 90 seconds off of three straight draw control wins. This allowed Army to claw its back into the game, beginning with Gorajek getting her second goal before Gabrielle Mirak registered a woman-up goal which made it 8-5 with 6:06 left in the half.Â
Valentini then got her second of the game and eighth of the season after sniping the top-right corner off an assist from Reilly, before Reilly made good on her first eight-meter attempt of the game to make it an 8-7 Stanford lead at the half.
Stanford then came out and dominated the second half, scoring the first three goals to get a cushion as Reilly scored the eighth and final goal for Army with 6:45 to play in the third quarter. Army was outshot 22-8 in the final half hour and recorded just three total shots in the fourth quarter.Â
The Black Knights became the first team to outdraw Stanford this season, controlling the draw 15-14 behind the 11 from Duffy. Serafine's ten saves were a season-high from an Army goalkeeper, as the 17 turnovers from Army were also the most in a game this season.
