KENSINGTON, Conn. – Team Captain John Heckel Jr. was crowned the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate Individual Champion after winning the title on the fourth playoff hole just before dusk at Shuttle Meadow Country Club.
Heckel Jr. got into the playoff with a birdie and two pars in the final three holes to finish his round at 4-under and then parred the first hole to earn the win on Sunday evening. He was 6-under for the two-round tournament. The Black Knights came in third as a team at 2-over after two rounds and had a team score of 570. The University of Rhode Island won the team title at 4-under.
TOURNAMENT NOTES:
• John Heckel Jr. had his second-lowest round as a Black Knight (67) and his best came at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate in 2023.
• He recorded 11 birdies in the two rounds and was 2-under on the back nine on Sunday.
• Dragon Theam had a good Sunday, shooting an even par 71, improving his score by five strokes between rounds.
• Rob Ferris shot a 1-over 72 for the Black Knights with four birdies.
• Josh Kim battled back from a tough start to shoot a 2-over 73 to help Army secure the third spot on the leaderboard.
Next up for the Black Knights is the Army-Navy Star Match on Oct. 4-5 at the West Point Golf Course.
