WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point Women's Basketball team (13-3, 5-1 PL) staged a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Boston University (7-10, 1-5 PL) at Case Gym. The victory marked Army's first win at BU since 2018.
Trinity Hardy led the charge with a standout performance, scoring 21 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Camryn Tade recorded a career-high 18 points along with 7 rebounds, helping the Black Knights outscore the Terriers 21-6 in the decisive fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Boston University opened the game strong, converting two free throws after winning the tip-off. Both teams then went scoreless for two minutes until a BU shooting foul allowed Tade to sink a buzzer-beater three-pointer to tie the game at 3-3. BU immediately responded with a mid-range jumper, and a free throw by Wilson kept Army close at 5-4. However, BU's driving layup extended their lead.
Fouls and turnovers hampered Army's momentum, enabling BU to convert three unanswered free throws. Hardy ended the scoring drought with a jumper and followed with a crucial and-one play, closing the gap to 10-9 as the first quarter ended.
Army seized their first lead early in the second quarter with a layup from Tade. However, BU quickly regained control with a jumper. The teams traded baskets as Sam Tillson tied the game with a driving layup. Midway through the quarter, BU hit a three-pointer to take an 18-15 lead. They added an and-one play and forced several turnovers with aggressive defense, pushing their lead to 23-15. A late BU layup sent Army into halftime trailing 25-15.
Hardy opened the second half with a quick layup, but BU responded with a jumper. Smith's second-chance layup for Army was immediately countered by a BU three-pointer. Hardy's three-pointer kept Army within reach, and despite the teams exchanging baskets, BU ended the third quarter ahead 46-38.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Black Knights. Tade sparked the comeback with a corner three-pointer, narrowing the deficit to five. BU went cold offensively, failing to make a field goal for the first three minutes. Another three from Tade brought Army within two. After BU managed just one free throw, Ericson converted two free throws to make it a one-point game, 47-46.
Tade's layup gave Army their first lead of the quarter, which Fiona Hastick extended with another layup. Army then went on a 7-0 run following a BU timeout, building a commanding 57-49 lead. Despite a late three-pointer from BU, the Black Knights sealed the win with Tade's layup, closing the game at 59-52.
