Army West Point Athletics

From the Desk of AD #31
November 13, 2025 | General
Welcome back to another edition of From the Desk of the AD - a platform from my perspective to keep you informed, engaged, and connected with everything happening in Army West Point Athletics and the Army West Point Athletic Association. Through this message, I'll be sharing important department updates, celebrating the accomplishments of our outstanding cadet-athletes, and offering insights into the dynamic world of college athletics. All of this is grounded in the four pillars of our Fruits of Victory strategic plan: Competitive Success, Delivering an Extraordinary Division I Experience, Public Engagement and Revenue Generation, and Sustainability.
A Night to Remember at Christl Arena / Honoring Coach K's Legacy
Veterans Day at West Point carried extra meaning this year as Army Men's Basketball welcomed No. 4 Duke to a packed, sold-out Christl Arena. It marked just the third time in program history—and the first in 28 years—that a Power Five opponent took the floor at West Point. The energy inside the arena matched the occasion, as cadets, fans, and alumni filled every seat to watch the Black Knights battle one of college basketball's bluebloods as we set a new Christl Arena attendance record of 5,326.
Before tip-off, the crowd rose to its feet to honor Mike Krzyzewski '69, who returned to his alma mater to be recognized as the winningest coach in NCAA Division I history. It was a powerful homecoming for Coach K—once a captain for Bob Knight's Army teams—now returning as one of the sport's all-time greats.

Champions Once Again / Dancing to the NCAA Tournament
A huge congratulations is in order to Head Coach Tracy Chao and her staff as the Army Women's Soccer team captured the 2025 Patriot League Tournament Championship last Sunday with a thrilling 3–2 victory over top-seeded Boston University. It's the program's first league title since 2011 and the first-ever postseason win over the Terriers.Â
With the conference crown secured, Army heads to the NCAA Tournament to face Penn State, giving this resilient squad another chance to showcase the grit and composure that defined their championship run. After years of heartbreak in the title game, Coach Chao's perseverance and leadership paid off! Let's go AWS!!!

Honoring 250 Years of Army Service
On Wednesday morning, we unveiled the 2025 Army football uniforms for the 126th Army-Navy Game, presented by USAA. The uniforms pay tribute to the 250th anniversary of the United States Army and honor the Soldiers who have defended our nation with bravery, selfless service, and sacrifice.
It is always a special day showing our Corps of Cadets our awesome threads! Go buy your Army 250 Gear here!Â

Army Football delivered a classic at a sold-out Michie Stadium, edging Temple 14–13 in an American Conference matchup. The Black Knights controlled the clock with a nine-minute, 53-yard drive in the fourth quarter to secure the win!
With the win, Army improved to 5–4 and sits one victory away from bowl eligibility. A heartfelt thank you to the fans and cadets for filling Michie Stadium and creating one of the best atmospheres in college football, as our last two games have marked sellout crowds!Â
Cross Country Shines at Patriot League Championships
Congrats to our women's cross country program, capturing its third straight Patriot League title, delivering one of the most dominant performances the league has seen in decades. Army posted just 21 points — the lowest score in the 10-team era — and placed four runners inside the top five.
Charlotte Richman led the charge, winning the individual title and earning Patriot League Runner of the Year honors with a commanding finish. She was joined by Mikayla Cheney, Louisa Diamond, and Alma Lazo Cazares on the First-Team All-Patriot League list, while Claire Lewis added a Second-Team performance.
Our staff was also recognized as the Women's Coaching Staff of the Meet, a well-deserved honor for Mike Smith, Elise Moore, and their entire group.

Army Athletics and Learfield Extend Partnership
Army West Point Athletics and Learfield renewed their partnership for 10 more years, keeping Learfield as the Academy's exclusive multimedia rights holder through 2035–36. The renewal strengthens Army Athletics' revenue growth, fan engagement, and brand partnerships.
Wishing men's rugby and sprint football the best as they go head-to-head with Navy for stars this weekend. Beat Navy!
Strong Showing on the Mats
Army Wrestling competed at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic in Bethlehem, Pa., with all 27 Black Knights getting at least three matches in the round-robin event.
Three wrestlers captured flight titles:
- Reid Schroeder – 197 Green flight
- Noah Tonsor – 125 Tan flight
- Dakota Morris – 174 White flight
Women's Basketball Starts 2–0
Army Women's Basketball opened the 2025–26 season with an 86–50 win over Pace, giving Katie Kuester her first victory as head coach - the first Army debut win since Maggie Dixon in 2005–06.
The Black Knights followed up with a road win at St. Thomas, moving to 2–0 and building early momentum under Kuester's leadership. I can't wait to watch this program thrive all season long!Â
