Men’s Soccer Defeats Colgate, Clinches No. 3 Seed in Patriot League Tournament
November 04, 2025 | Men's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team put together a strong second half to take down Colgate, 2-0, in its regular season finale at Malek Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the win, Army clinched the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will host No. 6 Lafayette in the First Round on Saturday at Malek Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
Army (7-5-5) is playing its best soccer of the season right now and its three-match winning streak is the longest since the 2022 season. The Black Knights started Tuesday slow on the offensive side but started to pick up momentum in the final 15 minutes of the half. Army had three shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes, while Colgate had two. The teams went into the halftime break in a 0-0 scoreless tie.
The offensive momentum from late in the first half carried over into the second, and Army was quickly rewarded for it. In the 48th minute, Jack Kryger netted his third goal of the season on a beautiful display of passing from Jack De Simone and Riley Cullum, who both earned assists. The Black Knights didn't let up after opening the scoring as just four-and-a-half minutes later, De Simone scored his fifth goal of the season off a nice pass from Ronald Zhai to double the Army lead.
De Simone, who has won the last two Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors, has now scored a goal in each of the last four games and is tied for the most goals on the team this season with five. Tuesday was the first three-point game of his career, and he now leads the team with 11 points.
The Army defense did a good job for all 90 minutes, limiting Colgate to very few dangerous chances. Goalkeeper Michael Guiry, the raining Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, made four saves en route to his third consecutive shutout and seventh of the season.
Guiry is now 7-2-4 on the season and is allowing just 0.85 goals per game. The sophomore has made 52 saves on the year and stopped 82.5 percent of shots on goal.
Army's third place finish in the regular season is the program's highest finish since it won the regular season title in 2022.
Head Coach Brian Plotkin's Message to the Team
"You've earned the right to host a playoff game. Incredible job by you guys. Now, you owe it to yourselves. Do it because you owe your teammates. You owe it to the guy whose been busting his butt next to you for the last three months to get to a point, where we not only train on November 5th but we compete at home in the First Round."
