Men’s Soccer Battles Stonehill to a 2-2 Draw

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army Men's Soccer played to a 2-2 draw Thursday night against Stonehill at Malek at Stadium at Clinton Field. The Black Knights responded to two Skyhawks goals to avoid the loss and move to 1-1-3 on the season. The draw brings Stonehill's record to 2-0-2.

How it Happened:
Stonehill took an early 1-0 lead in the 10^th minute on a goal by Killian Doherty, assisted by Chris Hines. Army answered in the 24^th minute when senior Jubril Bamgbala scored a goal off a corner kick by Ronald Zhai. Only three minutes later Stonehill found the back of the net again when Nate Monteiro converted an assist from Killian Doherty for a goal in the 27^th minute to make the score 2-1 Skyhawks.

Coming out of halftime, Army fought to get another score on the board, outshooting Stonehill 10-7 in the second half and putting eight shots on goal throughout the entire match. Jubril Bamgbala continued to test the Stonehill goalie Felix Van der Hagen, getting off eight shots, with four of them on goal. Army was relentless, and kept applying pressure to the Skyhawks defense in the second half, forcing goalkeeper Van der Hagen to make crucial saves to keep the Skyhawks in the lead.

In the 89^th minute, Army was able to break through the defense and score the equalizer. The goal was scored by senior defender Kelly Cooper and was assisted by Bruno Perversi. This goal gave Cooper his second of the season.

With less than two minutes remaining in the match following Cooper's goal, the Skyhawks were unable to respond, leading to a 2-2 stalemate.

Shots: The Black Knights outshot the Skyhawks 19-12.
Corner Kicks: Army took more kicks from the corner with six to Stonehill's four.
Saves: The Skyhawks recorded six saves and Army's Collin Gilbert recorded two.
Cards: Two yellow cards were issued to Stonehill. One to Jaxson Kahawai in the 62^nd minute, and one to Killian Doherty in the 89^th minute.
