HAMILTON, N.Y. – Army Women's Soccer earned a 2-1 victory on Thursday evening over the Colgate Raiders (9-6-4, Patriot 6-3-1) in the Patriot League Championship Semifinals. For the Army Black Knights (13-5-2, 6-3-1), they advance to the Patriot League Championship on Sunday afternoon against No.1 Boston U.

The Black Knights were led by Patriot League Rookie of the Year Sophia Henry and Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year Brigid Duffy, as the duo scored their second and third goals against the Colgate Raiders this season.

How It Happened

Neither team was able to earn control of the ball early in the game, with much of the play happening in the middle third of the pitch. The Black Knights had a couple good chances including a chance from senior Brigid Duffy when she beat her defender, but it was eventually stopped by the sliding defender
The Black Knights were able to break thru in at 43:42 on strike from inside the box by freshman Sophia Henry. Sophomore Bella Conti kicked a ball into the box on the right-hand side. Henry collected the ball, quickly turned and shot it on the low right side to make it 1-0 late in the first half.
Going into the break, Army took a 1-0 lead. The Black Knights had many chances in the second half to extend their lead with three corner kicks. The Black Knights were able to strike in the closing minutes of the match for their eighth goal with under 10 minutes remaining in a match this season.
At 87:23, Duffy scored the matches eventual game-winning goal. Junior Sabrina Rogers carrier the ball above the box but it was taken away by three Colgate defenders. Nearby, Duffy came to put pressure on the Colgate defenders but was able to beat all three with the ball. Duffy won the ball and carried it into the middle of the box and took a shot that hit the middle left hand side of the net.
The Raiders would score one with 33 seconds left in the match, but it proved to be too little too late.
