Women’s Basketball Defeats American

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Army West Point women's basketball team (19-5, 11-3 PL) defeated American (1-24, 1-13 PL) in a dominant 63-43 win on Wednesday evening.
Senior Trinity Hardy led the way for the Black Knights, scoring 14 points, all of which came in the second half. Closely following was Reese Ericson, who finished the day with 13 points and three assists. Kya Smith contributed on both ends, recording yet another double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
The Black Knights have now won seven of their last eight games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Black Knights won the tip, but American forced a turnover and got on the board first with a layup. Smith promptly responded with a layup of her own, but the Eagles answered with a jumper to reclaim the lead. Army then hit back-to-back three-pointers from Sam Tillson and Ericson to take control. The Black Knights maintained their lead with the Eagles close behind until there was 4:29 left in the quarter, with Army leading 11-8. From there, Army went on a 9-0 run to close out the quarter ahead 20-8.
In the second quarter, Army and American traded baskets in the early minutes, with Army maintaining its advantage. At the 7:45 mark, Army led 22-15. The Black Knights then went on a 7-2 scoring run to extend their lead. American responded with two three-pointers, but Army countered, entering halftime with a 33-23 lead.
The third quarter saw both teams continue to trade baskets early on. At 7:01, Hardy knocked down a pivotal three-pointer to restore Army's double-digit lead at 38-27. The Black Knights never looked back, outscoring American 12-2 for the remainder of the quarter, giving themselves a commanding 50-29 lead heading into the fourth.
In the final frame, Army kept its momentum, opening with five unanswered points. The Eagles attempted to rally, outscoring Army 14-13 in the quarter, but the Black Knights' dominant early performance ensured their lead remained intact, sealing the 63-43 victory.
