Golf Places 11th at Dorado Beach Collegiate

DORADO, Puerto Rico – The Army West Point golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season with an 11th-place finish at the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach.
The Black Knights had their best round of the week on Tuesday with a 3-under team score of 285, which was tied for the fifth on the team leaderboard. Overall, Army ended up with a team score of 866 (+2) during the three-round tournament. The hosts from UNC Greensboro led throughout the event and took first by eight strokes at 29-under par as a team. Winthrop's Jeff Nelson won the individual title by two strokes at 11-under par.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Josh Kim finished 1-over on Tuesday but claimed 17th on the individual leaderboard as Army's top golfer throughout the tournament.
• Drew Jeffords was also 1-over in the final round and placed 20th as an individual at 2-under for the event.
• Tyson Sparks was Army's best golfer on Tuesday with a 3-under 69 with four biridies.
• Sparks moved up 20 spots on the individual leaderboard with his performance on Tuesday.
• Griffin Garvin recorded his first under par round as a member of the team with a 1-under 71.
• Garvin had six birdies on the day and was 2-under in his last eight holes.
• John Heckel Jr. improved his numbers in the final round with an even par 72 to finish 3-over for the tournament.
The Black Knights return on March 10 for the first round of the Palmetto Invitational in South Carolina.
