Women’s Basketball Prepares for Patriot League Championship, Ticket to Tournament on the line

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball (24-6) seeded No. 2 in the Patriot League tournament was victorious in the semifinal, defeating Bucknell, 49-39. Army will now take on the No. 1 seeded Lehigh Mountain Hawks with a ticket to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
The PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Championship Game is on Sunday, March 16, and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network with tip-off slated for just a few minutes past noon EST from Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa.
Jason Knapp (Play-by-Play), Julianne Viani-Braen (Analyst), and Paige Messier (Reporter) will be on the call.
Army is seeking its first Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2015-16 season. This marks the fourth trip to the Patriot League title game overall for the Black Knights, winning the Patriot League and attending the 'big dance' the three other occasions in 2006, 2014, and 2016.
The Black Knights were relentless on the glass in the semifinal win, finishing the first half by out-rebounding Bucknell by 10 (23-13). The rebounding led Army to outscore the Bison, 10-2, on second-chance points. Army's defense was lights out in the second quarter, limiting the Bison to just four points on 2-9 shooting.
Army's big three trio of all-conference performers Reese Ericson, Trinity Hardy, and Fiona Hastick combined to score 23 of Army's 24 points in the first half to set the tone.
Lehigh was victorious over Holy Cross, winning by 19 points, 65-44. Two Mountain Hawks finished in double figures, led by fifth-year wing Maddie Albrecht's 19 points, followed by senior guard Colleen McQuillen's 14 points. Albrecht also recorded five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. McQuillen finished with four steals as well.
Army dropped both contests to Lehigh in the regular season, losing 90-51 on Jan 12 at Christl Arena and recently 76-61 on the road on March 1.
In the most recent meeting on March 1, Reese Ericson and Trinity Hardy had 15 points each to pace the Army scoring.
Army has lost its last six matchups vs. Lehigh dating back to the 2022-23 season. Army's last win over Lehigh came on 1/26/22, a 70-57 win at West Point in Missy Traversi's first season at the helm.
