Men’s Lacrosse’s Sean Byrne Added to 2025 Tewaaraton Award Watch List

WEST POINT, N.Y. – No. 5 Army West Point men's lacrosse junior goalkeeper Sean Byrne was added to the 2025 Tewaaraton Watch List as announced by the award organization on Thursday.
Founded in 2001, The Tewaaraton Award is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female college lacrosse players in the United States and is considered the sport's premier individual honor.
The three-time 2024 Patriot League Player of the Week and back-to-back 2025 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week earned recognition to the list following an impeccable start to his 2025 campaign.
An Acworth, Ga. Native, Byrne has made a name for himself in goal for the Black Knights over their 5-0 start to the season, leading the nation in both save percentage (0.737) and goals-against average (4.44) across his five starts this season and even scoring a goal in Army's home opener against Rutgers.
Across his 270 minutes in goal and anchoring a stalwart Army defense, Byrne has faced 130 shots over the season and delivered 56 saves for the Black Knights.
With Byrne's steady presence the Black Knights have secured wins by five goals or more in all five games so far this season with three of those wins coming on a ten-plus goal lead for Army.
Byrne led the Black Knights in goal over the 2024 season as well, earning a .551 save percentage with a team-high 86 saves on 246 shots faced over his 390 minutes in goal.
The Black Knights, ranked fifth in the country in the week four Inside Lacrosse Poll and USILA Coaches Poll, will next face Patriot League opponent Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, March 8.
