Duffy’s Brace Leads Women’s Soccer to First Program Victory over North Texas

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point women's soccer earned their first win of the month of September with a 3-1 victory over the North Texas Mean Green (4-5-0). Notably, this win marks the first victory in Army (5-2-1) women's soccer program history, in the first ever meeting between the two schools.

In the win, senior Brigid Duffy recorded her first brace of the season and second of her career, while senior Bella Cooke scored her first goal of the season.

How It Happened

The Mean Green started the game strong, with a goal in the first five minutes to open the scoring for the game.
The Black Knights fought back with 12 shots in the first half and three corner kicks to try to find the equalizer.
Army found the equalizer before going into halftime off a great individual effort from senior Brigid Duffy. Duffy ran with the ball from the defensive zone beating the Mean Green defenders, before going around the final one. Duffy, while fading down the right side away from the net, struck the ball off her right foot above the goaltender.
Coming out of halftime, North Texas and Army were unable to find the go ahead go, until Duffy scored her second of the night, to earn a brace at 79:47. Junior Sabrina Rogers passed the ball to sophomore Grace Pohlidal in the box. Pohlidal perfectly place a thru ball to Duffy. Duffy picked up the ball and slide it around past the Mean Green goalkeeper.
Less than five minutes later at 82:13, the Black Knights extended the lead off a long ball strike from the foot of senior Bella Cooke. Cooke took the ball just outside the box on the right side and struck off her left foot, that went in upper 90 past the diving goalkeeper to make it 3-1.
